Yoga

Our yoga classes are designed to support skaters’ bodies and minds through targeted flexibility, balance, and recovery work. Yoga helps improve range of motion for deeper edges and better positions, while promoting muscle recovery and reducing soreness from intense training. By enhancing core stability, joint mobility, and mental focus, yoga also plays a key role in injury prevention—keeping skaters strong, centered, and ready to perform their best on the ice. Enrollment open to non-skaters too.

Yoga for Figure Skaters
Our Yoga for Figure Skaters classes are thoughtfully designed to support the unique physical demands of the sport—helping skaters build flexibility, mobility, balance, and body awareness both on and off the ice. Through a blend of strengthening and restorative yoga practices, skaters learn to connect breath with movement, enhance their range of motion, and improve overall muscular balance.

A key focus of this class is joint mobility—especially in the hips, shoulders, knees, and spine—which are essential for achieving deep edges, controlled turns, and fluid transitions. By improving joint function and stability, skaters can move with greater ease and reduce the strain that often leads to overuse injuries.

Equally important is muscle flexibility. Yoga promotes long, lean muscle development and targets tight areas such as the hamstrings, hip flexors, and back—common tension points for figure skaters. Increased flexibility not only allows for more expressive movement and improved positions (like spirals and laybacks) but also supports proper alignment and efficient technique.

Classes also incorporate restorative poses and mindful recovery work, designed to release tension, reduce inflammation, and speed up muscle repair after intense on-ice training. This balance of active and restorative movement helps skaters maintain peak performance while prioritizing longevity and injury prevention.

Beyond the physical benefits, yoga fosters mental focus and composure, teaching skaters to center their energy, manage competition stress, and approach each performance with confidence and calm. Together, these elements make yoga an invaluable part of a figure skater’s training regimen—cultivating strength, grace, and resilience both inside and outside the rink.
