Once a school for German immigrants, it now serves as the vibrant home of the German-Texan Heritage Society (GTHS), a nonprofit dedicated to preserving German-Texan history, language, and culture. Since opening in 2021, the German International School of Texas at Austin (GIS) has expanded from Toddler, Pre-K to 4th grade, meeting Austin’s growing demand for a total immersion German language school.
