On August 4th from 8:00 am until 11:30 am the Johnson City Library and LBJ National Historical Park are hosting a Bioblitz. A bioblitz is a fun, intensive, short search for biodiversity. Our event is at the LBJ National Park Settlement which has an amazing amount of biodiversity. All you need bring is your curiosity, a smart phone with the iNaturalist app installed (or a digital camera), good walking shoes and sunscreen, and tons of enthusiasm. There will be lots of citizen scientists to answer questions about all kinds of critters and help you discover. There will be lots of other fun activities for the whole family including free nature kits for the first 50 kids. The bioblitz is one inter-active part of the film "Backyard Wilderness "which will be shown twice at the bioblitz- 9:00 am at the LBJ Visitor Center and 11:30 at the Library. The other part is an exhibit at the library that is a miniature nature scavenger hunt. The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday through Friday 10 am-6 pm, and Saturdays 10 am-1 pm. The exhibit closes Saturday September 8. Please join us for this fantastic, free event. Find us on Facebook for more information.
