Lives Remembered: Black History in Pease Park | Kids Out and About Austin

Lives Remembered: Black History in Pease Park

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 05/16/2026
The site of today's Pease District Park was part of the 365-acre Woodlawn homestead owned by former Texas Governor E. M. Pease and his wife, Lucadia. Although Governor Pease supported the Union during the Civil War, research has found that at least 37 individuals were directly enslaved or leased as enslaved labor by the Pease family. This tour recognizes and shares some of the stories of a few of these people.
