Welcome to our Fall 2021 Teddy Bear Train to benefit the Center for Child Protection! Kids 13 and under ride for free with the donation of a new teddy bear or stuffed animal.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately.

About the Ride:

Sit back for a relaxing journey into passenger railroad's glorious past onboard this special Bertram Flyer! Our vintage train cars are from the golden era of rail travel, built in the '30s, '40s and '50s, and fully restored for your enjoyment. On board the train, your 44 mile journey spans the South San Gabriel River and stops for a 15 minute layover at our historic 1912 Bertram Depot. Enjoy views of Short Creek Canyon, the 300-foot-long wooden trestle bridge over the South San Gabriel, and the Duffy-Shamrock communications mast-one of the tallest structures in the world! Costumes and teddy bears are encouraged on this special ride! Complimentary lemonade will be available in the Cedar Park concession car.

All ages are welcome in all cars for this special ride.

Please visit our website prior to purchasing to view our current health and safety plan at www.austinsteamtrain.org/make-reservations/covid-19/ .  All cars are pulled by a diesel locomotive. This 44 mile ride is 3 hours round trip with a 15-minute layover. SCHEDULE: Departs 2:00 PM, Returns 5:00 PM. Due to the unique nature of our non-profit railroad operations, there are no refunds. All tickets must be accompanied by at least one full-priced adult ticket. Children may not ride without an adult present. One adult per 8 children is required.

About the Center for Child Protection:

The mission of the Center for Child Protection is to reduce the trauma for children during the investigation and prosecution of crimes against children. https://centerforchildprotection.org/

After visiting the Center for the first time, children are given a brand new teddy bear or stuffed animal to help provide comfort and a sense of safety during a difficult time – it also represents a new beginning. With a continually increasing number of children visiting the Center each day, they ask for your support in keeping their teddy bear and stuffed animal supply fully stocked. https://centerforchildprotection.org/get-involved/wish-list/
