Announcing: 2016 Camp Themes

Every day, your campers will work with farm animals and eat fresh food. In addition, there are unique weekly themes with featured guest speakers and activities, including:

  • June 6-10: Fine and Found Arts on the Farm: Campers will get inspired on the farm and create skits, puppet shows, photographs, films, songs (with veggie instruments!), written works, and visual art displays to illustrate the life cycles of the farm. This week will culminate in a talent show and gallery display for parents at.
  • June 13-17: Creative Cooking: Campers get to participate in the whole farming cycle, from growing to harvesting to cooking. They’ll forage for wild edible plants, harvest some of the farm’s organic vegetables, cook in the solar oven, preserve foods through canning and pickling, develop recipes and eat!
  • June 20-24: Sustainable Superheros: Campers will use their own superpowers to put the three themes of permaculture in action: Earth Care; People Care; and Fair Share. They will build berms and swales to improve water flow on the farm, cook with fresh, organic vegetables and learn how healthy food helps the body, and practice distributing produce at their own Farm Stand.
  • June 27-July 1: Construction Kids: Campers create structures to improve the farm. Experts will teach tool safety then help with such projects as: bird houses, chicken coop, art projects, and camper-built floats for our Farm Parade!
  • July 11-15: Livestock Love: Campers learn about the life cycles and interconnected roles of our farm animals. They will help farmers care for chickens, pigs, worms, goats, rabbits, honeybees, guinea fowl, and White Socks the horse! This may involve feeding, grooming, collecting eggs, maintaining pasture, working in the barn. All tasks are age-appropriate.
  • July 18-22: All Things Great and Small: Campers discover the power of small things and how farms depend on all of them working together. We’ll investigate bugs, seeds, microbes, bacteria…(younger campers will help us find the fairies on the farm, too). Perfect for inquiring minds. Bring your magnifying glass!
