The Breakfast Boogie

Austin, TX — Get ready for The Breakfast Boogie, a fun and engaging live concert series for kids and their grownups under the shady trees of the Far Out Lounge in South Austin.
Presented in partnership with KUTX and Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child, the series features well-loved acts, including renowned singer-songwriter/rapper SaulPaul, retro-soulsters Charlie Faye & The Fanimals, Tulsa-based merrymaker Hot Toast Music Co., “catchy, fun and empowering” Houstonite Uncle Jumbo and Austin “kindie” rockers Strawbitty Yops, all at the family-friendly time of 10am. Boogie buddies can enjoy beverages from Far Out or snack at one of the food trucks in the colorful eclectic atmosphere of the Far Out Lounge, as the little ones play and experience live kid-approved music in one of Austin's best venues.
The Breakfast Boogie was originally conceptualized by musician/music consultant Charlie Faye (Charlie Faye & The Fanimals) and musician/educator Cindy Haws (Strawbitty Yops) and brought to fruition through partnership with award-winning radio station KUTX and PRX’s (This American Life, The Moth) Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child. Faye, who has a history in the music community as an artist and an organizer, entered into the children’s music world when she had a child of her own. Haws has spent years as a professional musician, educator and children's performer, and knows what works for kids.
“We need to create spaces that provide magical musical experiences for children but also opportunities for families to go hear live music at a time of day that is accessible,” says Haws. The series aims to curate a diverse lineup of music that expands and educates, creates community, and provides rich musical experiences that will embed the love of music in all who attend.”
Bill Childs, the host of nationally syndicated children’s music show Spare The Rock, Spoil The Child, agrees. “Austin’s long been home to great family music,” he says. “It’s super exciting to see new generations of performers leading the way, and it’s a great time for a new series to share amazing music for all families.”
The series kicks off with a performance from the Grammy-nominated SaulPaul, who you may have seen or heard on one of his two Ted Talks, America’s Got Talent, The Super Bowl and the famed Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts. With two chart-topping #1 songs on Sirius XM under his belt, his latest album, Okay to Be Different, along with his previous album, Be the Change, are being played on radio stations across the country.
“Austin is the ‘Live Music Capital of the World’,” says Faye, “and we want parents and kids to experience the best of what this city has to offer them in live music.” She pauses, then adds, “Speaking as the parent of a 3-year-old, we all want more!”
Get down at The Breakfast Boogie every Saturday morning at 10am (doors at 9:30) at The Far Out Lounge, beginning on July 15th. Ticket prices are $10/adult, $5/child and kids under 2 can boogie for free. Tickets will be available on site or at http://www.thefaroutaustin.com/events.html
