The Green Dome Summer Camp: The Maker and Meal Series in Austin offers a unique summer experience for children ages four to twelve by combining off-grid exploration with hands-on learning. Running from June 1st to July 9th, the program operates Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The camp is divided into two distinct tracks to ensure every child finds a space to thrive. The first track, known as The Engineers, is designed for older campers or those with a technical interest in mechanical engineering and coding. This structured, syllabus-driven journey uses Arduinos, sensors, and motors to help kids build functional inventions they can take home. Weekly highlights include building soil sensors to communicate with plants, designing wearable technology with glowing gear, and creating digital worlds through original code. Campers also explore music by turning everyday objects into digital instruments, harness the sun to build solar ovens, and participate in a grand finale Hackathon and community banquet. The second track, The Little Chefs, is tailored for younger explorers and tactile creators. This track follows the rhythm of the seasons through an open-ended, sensory-rich experience centered on the kitchen and garden. Children learn the origins of their food by harvesting fresh ingredients and eggs directly from the land. They develop essential skills such as safe knife handling and kitchen chemistry while enjoying the freedom to lead with their own culinary ideas. The program also incorporates nature-based art, including mud-kitchen play and the creation of botanical dyes. Located at the Green Dome Project, this camp provides an immersive environment where children can reconnect with nature. Whether they are listening to the soil in the engineering lab or tending to the chicken coop in the garden, participants experience a rare intersection of innovation and the natural world. At a cost of 350 dollars per week, the camp offers seven weeks of discovery in the forest. Space is limited, so families are encouraged to view available dates and register for either the Engineer or Little Chef tracks to secure a spot for the summer.
